STAFF AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN THE FACULTY IN THE YEAR 2018

The following members of staff from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine were recognized and awarded by the University of Nairobi for their outstanding performance. This took place at a ceremony held at Taifa Hall, Main Campus on December 14, 2018. On behalf of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and on my own behalf, I congratulate the members of staff. Prof. James A. Nguhiu Mwangi

Chairman, Department of Clinical Studies and Associate Professor of Veterinary Surgery

 

Professor James A. Nguhiu Mwangi was recognized for having the highest score in the Staff Performance Appraisal for the year 2016/2017 in College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS).

Prof. Nguhiu is the current Chairman, Department of Clinical Studies and is an Associate Professor of Veterinary Surgery. He holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Medline (BVM) Master of Science and Doctorate (PhD) degree in Clinical Studies (surgery discipline) from the University of Nairobi. He has taught Veterinary Surgery since 1981 and has supervised several postgraduate students at both Masters and PhD level.  Prof. Nguhiu has also carried out research in surgery and published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals and also published 2 surgery book and book chapters in scholarly books. His area of interest is in Cattle Lameness, Radiography, Sutures and Abdominal Surgery and traumatology.

BVM, MSc, PhD

Professor, Department of Clinical Studies

 

Professor George Karuoya Gitau was recognized for having the second highest score in the Staff Performance Appraisal for the year 2016/2017 in College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS).

He is a Full Professor at the Department of Clinical Studies. He has specialized training and teaches Food Animal Medicine, Ruminant health management (heard Health and Epidemiology (Population Medicine). Prof. Gitau has published over 60 scientific papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented over 45 papers in local, regional and international conferences. He has supervised to completion 5 Ph.D. and 18 Masters students. Others are ongoing.

Professor Lilly Caroline Bebora

Professor of Veterinary Microbiology and Poultry disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention

 

Professor Lilly Caroline Bebora is a Professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology & Parasitology. She was recognized among the teaching staff who have served the University for more than 30 years.

Prof. Bebora is a veterinarian with two specialities:-Veterinary Microbiology and Poultry disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention. She has lectured on the respective disciplines to students taking Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, BSc in Biomedical Technology, BSc in Wildlife diseases, BSc in Fisheries, and BSc in Leather Science, including their respective Postgraduate levels, for 42 years. She has researched extensively and has published 73 papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented 60 papers in conferences and seminars. She has supervised several postgraduate students at MSc and PhD levels. Prof. Bebora is currently Chairperson of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine postgraduate studies committee and one of the Directors of the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI). She is a member of the Global Antimicrobial Resistance Partnership (GARP) group, Kenyan chapter. She has co-authored 5 books; other two are awaiting publishing.

Mr. Ezekiel Hongo Weda

Retired Principal Technologist, Department of Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology & Parasitology

 

Mr. Ezekiel Hongo Weda was recognized among the staff in Grade 12-15 who had served the University for more than 30 years. Holds a Higher National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from Kenya Polytechnic and a Certificate in Helminthology from the United Kingdom. He has worked as a Senior Technologist and Chief Technologist in the department for many years. He retired in December 2018 as a Principal Technologist in the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology & Parasitology.
