VISIT BY DANIDA CONSULTATIVE RESEARCH COMMITTEE FOR DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH

On Monday 8th January 2024, the Danida Consultative Research Committee For Development Research visited the Faculty of Vet. Medicine, where first they made a courtesy call to the Dean, FVM together with the heads of departments and Later in the afternoon, the team lead by the Dean, Faculty of Vet.Medicine visited the Flygene Project field site.

Danida Fellowship Centre (DFC) manages the support to development research on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark(MFA) and acts as secretariat to the FFU. It planned a research project in Kenya for the FFU members, joined by representatives of the MFA and DFC.

The purpose of the visit to Kenya is for the FFU members to gain an insight into the research projects funded by the MFA. The trip was organized for the FFU members to observe and learn - not to evaluate, hence the visit to the Department of Animal Production/Flygene Project at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi.

The FFU is a committee of nine members across academic fields. It advises the MFA regarding Danish support to development research, is responsible for assessing research funding proposals and for the scientific quality assurance of narrative project reporting.

To provide a good understanding of the ongoing research projects in Kenya, FFU members met with project researchers (and PhD students) and to the extent possible also visited field sites of the research projects. The FFU members met with secondary partners and project stakeholders.

The visit to a project field site or meeting with stakeholders was accompanied by project researchers in order for the FFU members to gain an understanding of how project data is collected, the collaboration with secondary partners/stakeholders, etc.
