Prof. George Karuoya Gitau holds the BVM (UoN), MSc (Guelph) and PhD (UoN) degrees. He is a Professor of Epidemiology and Food Animal Medicine at the Department of Clinical Studies, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He is a Senate Representative for College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences and a Trustee, University of Nairobi Pension Scheme. He has supervised 47 Graduate students to completion; 9 PhD, 32 Masters and 22 undergraduate students. He has published 92 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and 58 conference papers. In 2020, he received a US$6m Grant from USAID jointly with Washington State University and International Livestock Research Institute for setting up of an Animal Health Innovation Lab and capacity building under Feed the Future Programme. Prof. Gitau has received research grants in the past and undertaken consultancies for numerous agencies, including VSF, Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare, Canada, Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Grants, Bimeda Pharmaceutical International, African Union, GEF/UNEP, CIDA, USAID, IDRC, KAPP, DFID, EU, RUFORUM, and CDC among others. Prof. Gitau is the Editor-in-Chief of the East African Journal of Science, Technology and Innovation and has served a similar role with the Bulletin of Animal Health and Production in Africa. Prof. Gitau has also served as an External Examiner in Sokoine University of Agriculture and the University of Ghana. Prof. Gitau is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada.
