Land degradation is a serious environmental problem of our time. In Kenya, it is estimated that 30% of the total land mass is severely degraded. Suswa catchment within Narok County is a good example with gullies of over 25 m deep and 30 m wide.

Rift Valley fever (RVF) is a vector-borne zoonotic disease caused by phlebovirus in the family Bunyaviridae. In Kenya, major outbreaks occurred in 1997–1998 and 2006–2007 leading to human deaths, huge economic losses because of livestock morbidity, mortality, and restrictions on livestock trade.

NAIROBI INNOVATION WEEK 2024

The University of Nairobi is planning the the 8th edition of Nairobi Innovation Week. The NIW 2024 will take place on May 8-10, 2024. This years' event is themed, ' Strengthening the Innovation Ecosystem in Higher Education institutions through the Government-Academia-Industry-Community linkages for Sustainable Development.' 

The event will include a three day hackathon as part of activities. This will give students an opportunity to showcase their creativity and innovativeness. Participants can work alone or in a team.
