JAN SYDNEY KIGEN SANG MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST TWO-TERM FVM GOVERNOR

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi, proudly celebrates a historic moment
in student leadership following the victory of Jan Sydney Kigen Sang in the UNSA 2025/2026
elections. Jan has made history by becoming the first-ever Governor elected from Third Year,
and remarkably, the first individual to serve two consecutive terms as Governor of the Faculty,
both through highly contested elections.

Jan’s second victory under Team Kazi was a record-breaking one, with his team securing 300
votes, the highest ever recorded by any UNSA-FVM team, and achieving the largest winning
margin in the Faculty’s history, with a lead of 100 votes. This outstanding win reflects both his
proven leadership and the overwhelming trust the students have placed in him.

The newly elected Team Kazi comprises:

  • Jan Sydney Kigen Sang – Governor
  • Kishoyian Shiluni – Vice Governor
  • Victor Ogutu – Secretary General
  • Derrick Memusi – Treasurer
  • Axel Sean – Sports and Social Welfare Representative
  • Manuela Mirembe – International Student Representative

Jan first rose to leadership in the 2024/2025 elections as the head of Team Changers, where he
and his team laid a strong foundation for student engagement, unity, and progress within the
Faculty. His leadership has been characterized by determination, teamwork, and a clear vision
for a more vibrant student community.
Among his notable achievements during his tenure was the successful organization of the first-
ever Veterinary and Wildlife Students’ Summit, a groundbreaking event that brought together
students from across Kenya, including those from Egerton University, for an interactive platform
of learning, innovation, and collaboration.

Reflecting on his re-election, Jan remarked:
“This victory is not just mine, it belongs to every student who believes in change, teamwork, and
the power of persistence. Leading the Faculty twice is an honor, but what excites me most is the
opportunity to continue building a space where every veterinary and wildlife student feels seen,
supported, and inspired to make an impact.”
Jan’s re-election under Team Kazi signals a continued commitment to student empowerment,
inclusivity, and academic excellence. His journey from leading Team Changers to Team Kazi
stands as a testament to his resilience, credibility, and capacity to inspire trust among his peers.

As the Faculty looks ahead to another academic year, the community celebrates a leader who has
not only made history but continues to redefine it, Governor Jan Sydney Kigen Sang, a symbol
of dedication, unity, and visionary leadership.
